Hatha Yoga - Intermediate
Ghaṭa — establishing the vessel. A broader sequence as the practice deepens and the breath becomes primary.

Service Description
Establishing the vessel. This stage takes its name from the Sanskrit word ghaṭa — vessel, or container. The body is becoming a stable container: capable of holding more, sustaining longer, and working with greater subtlety. The class follows the same rhythm as Foundational, but the scope widens. The posture sequence is broader and asks for more steadiness; postures are held longer, so they have time to do their work. Between them, short rests let the breath and heart rate settle before continuing — that rhythm of work and rest is deliberate. Here the breath becomes a primary practice rather than a preparatory one. You work with specific ratios of inhalation and exhalation, are introduced to kumbhaka (breath retention), and to Nāḍī Śodhana (alternate-nostril breathing) — a structured practice that works with the two main energy channels of the body to steady the nervous system. What we do in class • Centering and a fuller warm-up • A broader sequence of standing, balancing and seated postures, with longer holds • Backbend and early inversion work, introduced with care • A dedicated breathwork section • Guided Śavāsana, followed by a short seated practice This class is for you if • You have been practising regularly — at least once a week — for around six months • You are comfortable in the Foundational postures and want to go further • You are ready to work with the breath as a primary practice • You can commit to attending consistently The body needs this time to develop the stability and breath capacity the class asks for. If you attend only occasionally, you're likely to find it more demanding than useful — and Foundational will serve you better. Not sure? Start there; your teacher will let you know when you're ready.
