What yoga means to us, at Om Yoga Studios

Yoga, in its classical form, is a complete and practical system of the human being — a living tradition studied and refined over thousands of years.

A complete, practical system

Over thousands of years, dedicated practitioners studied the body, the breath, and the workings of the mind with extraordinary care, and recorded what they found. What they built is not a trend but a tradition — one of remarkable precision and depth.

We teach it in that spirit: patiently, and with respect for the practice as it was handed down.

The Hatha path

Our practice is traditional Haṭha yoga — the yoga of posture and breath. The body is the entry point, the place where awareness begins, and from there the practice opens into breath and stillness.

Breath and posture are given equal weight. Rather than a separate class, breathwork (prāṇāyāma) is woven through everything we do, so the two grow together.

Depth, not a ladder

Our three Hatha classes — Foundational, Intermediate and Advanced — carry the traditional stages of practice from the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā: Ārambha (beginning), Ghaṭa (the vessel), and Parichaya (deepening). They describe depth and readiness, not a race to climb.

Foundational is not a lesser class; it is where the practice is set in motion. A good student is defined by consistency, not by advanced postures — and your teacher will tell you when it is time to go further.

A place to be honoured

We think of the studio as a shala — a dedicated home for practice. You arrive, set the day down, and give your attention to the practice, quietly and with care for the space and the people in it.

The room itself is bright and open. Calm tends to follow from that openness, rather than from being told to relax.

Understanding as part of practice

We believe practice deepens when you understand what you are doing and why. So alongside the classes we share the theory and philosophy behind them — the postures, the breath, the lineage — for anyone who wants to know the practice more fully.

Come as you are, and leave a little lighter, a little clearer, and slightly better acquainted with yourself.
